When you're in the mood to practice or jam with your electric or silent guitar and you don't want to annoy your neighbors, there are few options as simple and effective as the Vox Classic Rock amPlug.
Just plug the Vox amPlug into your guitar's 1/4" jack, set the amPlug's volume, tone and gain to create the sound that fits your mood, add your favorite phones, and wail away. The Vox Classic Rock amPlug is programmed to deliver the unique high-gain sound of a British-made 100W amp, and it does a respectable job of it. There are other Vox amPlug models that sound like other full sized amp models.
The only issue I have with the Vox amPlug is I wish the controls were labeled in an easier to read format. Sometimes I'm spinning the volume wheel when I want more gain. But, over time, I've gotten used to their positions.
The Vox amPlug includes a jack to plug in your MP3 player for jamming with your favorite tunes. It runs a long time on 2 AAA batteries, which makes it a very good travel companion for your guitar.
The controls, volume, gain and tone, are located on top of the Vox amPlug along with the headphone jack.
