Tascam DP004 Digial Pocketstudio Recorder
Recording studios are cool.  With multi-tracking, artists can sing their hearts out, harmonize with their own voices, add a couple of instruments and combine the tracks into a masterpiece.

Not too long ago, that kind of power was only found in a recording studio.  Now, for about $150, you can have a four track, CD quality recorder called the Tascam DP004 Digital Pocketstudio Recorder.

Just bigger than palm-sized, the Tascam DP004 Digital Pocketstudio is a blast to use.  It takes a couple of hours to master the controls, but when you do, you'll be able to lay down tracks like a pro.

The other day, I needed to record an original song for a YouTube video.  I layed down the guitar on track one.  Then I put on headphones, and while listening to track one, sang on track two.  Then I added percussion on tracks three and four.  When I was done, I adjusted the volume and pan on each track and then created a master recording WAV file and stored it on and SD memory card.  After I downloaded the song to my computer, I could send it anywhere.

The entire process sounds complicated, but it was actually extremely simple.  I didn't even have to plug in a microphone or my guitar because the Tascam DP004 Digital Pocketstudio has a built in stereo microphone that sounds great.  If I had wanted to plug in components, there are two 1/4 inch jacks.

The Tascam DP004 Digital Pocketstudio Recorder comes with an AC adapter but can also run about eight hours on a set of batteries.

It really doesn't make sense to me to spend the same amount of money, or more, on a single track recorder when you can have all the power and flexibility of the Tascam DP004 Digital Pocketstudio Recorder for the same price.
