Seagull S6
Acoustic Guitar

The Seagull S6 Acoustic Guitar is the first guitar I ever bought.  I chose it because Seagull, a Canadian company, has a reputation for creating guitars with high-quality craftsmanship at an affordable price.  Better yet, experienced players said the S6 delivered a sweet, rich sound usually found in much more expensive instruments.  And they were right.

When my Seagull S6 arrived, I was struck by its enormous size.  This is a dreadnought guitar intended to deliver powerful, resonating sound.  You might think the size would be a problem for a beginning guitarist, but it's actually easier to hold and stabilize against your body than smaller models.  Smaller guitars tend to squirm around.  (Seagull makes several sizes.)  If you don't have a good grip on the body when you go to change chords, the neck will shift, making it hard to locate the strings for the next chord.

The Seagull S6 guitar arrived solid and flawlessly constructed.  None of the pieces were out of line.  The solid cedar top is lightly finished, not gloss, so you have to be careful not to ding it.  Then, once you get a ding on it like I did, you won't have to worry about it anymore.  You'll realize that the dings give it a rustic character.  The laminated wild cherry on the sides and back and rosewood fingerboard enhance the guitar's attractiveness.

The Seagull S6 tuners are solid.  You tighten the strings, they stay in place.  This is critical.  The worst mistake a new guitarist can make is to go too cheap and end up with a guitar that won't stay in tune.  It's frustrating to hit the notes right and have them come out wrong.

I would recommend the Seagull S6 to anyone looking for a quality guitar that doesn't break the bank.  Spend a little more money to have a guitar tech set it up right.  Especially make sure that the action -- distance between the strings and the frets -- isn't so high you can't press the strings to the frets without shredding your fingers or cramping your hand.

Buy the Seagull S6 guitar and you're in for a real treat.

The Seagull S6 is a monster of a dreadnought guitar that delivers rich, voluminous sound at an affordable price.  The guitar has a solid set of tuners that hold the strings in tune.  And the mix of woods -- solid cedar top, wild cherry laminated back and sides and rosewood fingerboard and bridge -- make for an attractive, resonant instrument.  Just be careful:  The S6 is lightly laquered, not gloss, which means dings will show.  After the first scratch, I relaxed and actually appreciated the character it added to the instrument.
The Seagull S6 has an understated beauty that any musician can be proud to own.  As with any guitar, make sure to have yours professionally set up.  This will ensure that the action -- distance between strings and frets -- isn't so high that you can't press the strings down firmly when sounding a note.
