Midland WR300
Weather Radio

Stories abound about people caught off guard by tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, flooding and other natural and manmade hazards.  With the government's upgraded weather and civil emergency warning system, there's no excuse for putting yourself and your family at risk.

The Midland WR300 Weather Radio picks up all National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration weather channels and national, state, county and local civil emergency alerts.

What sets the Midland WR300 radio apart from the rest is its ability to focus the alerts on my immediate area using Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E.) technology.  This means I won't be disturbed by alerts meant for problems in distant counties that don't affect me.  The other plus is that I can add or remove unwanted alerts.  For example, I removed severe thunderstorm watches and tornado watches but kept severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings, which involve more imminent danger.  I also took out the weekly system test and weather statement alerts.  The iceburg warning is gone, too.

When an alert is triggered, the radio emits a 90 decibel tone that can't be missed.  The radio also has red warning and yellow watch lights that indicate an alert has been issued.

The unit is an AM/FM clock radio.  It includes an AC Power adapter and can also run on battery power, which is pretty important when a storm knocks out electricity.  For better reception, you can plug in an external antenna.

The user manual is very well written and organized.  It will take an hour or so to set up the radio, but it's a small investment when you consider it could save your life.

Two weeks after I bought my radio, the tornado warning alert sounded and an announcer said where the storm was headed and how to prepare for it.  The tornado dissipated several miles west of my home, but it was comforting to know I had plenty of time to respond if it kept coming this way.

Bottom Line: Buy a Midland WR300 today for yourself, your family and friends.  YOU just might be the superhero who saves their lives.

Humble and unassuming, the Midland WR300 Weather Radio is a superhero that could save your life.  The radio receives weather and civil hazard alerts from government agencies.  The detailed manual will walk you through setting up the radio for your local area and choosing the specific alerts you want to receive.  Alerts sound loud and clear and should be impossible to sleep through.

The controls are straightforward.  Lights on the left side indicate that a warning has been issued.  This is important if you're away when the audible alert sounds.  The device also serves as a clock radio.
