Line 6 Pocket POD Express
Living in a condo, I never get to blow an amp.  Instead, when I want to play my electric and acoustic/electric guitars with a little extra volume, I have to run the sound through an amp or mini-amp and use headphones.  The Line 6 Pocket POD Express is an amazing, hand-sized amp that's a blast to use.

The Line 6 Pocket POD recreates the sound of five historic amp models: Fender Deluxe Reverb, Vox AC 30 Top Boost, Marshall JCM 800, Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier and Fender Twin Reverb.  The amps are selected on the dial marked Clean, Twang, Crunch, Rock and Metal.  You can flavor the sound with six guitar effects: Chorus, Tremolo, Flange, Delay, Spring Reverb and Hall Reverb.

The fun part for me is mixing and matching the amp models and effects and volume to find just the right sound or something totally outrageous.  It's cool to play a folk song with heavy metal thunder or a rock song with acoustic flair.  The possibilities are endless.

The Line 6 Pocket POD provides a number of interface options.  There is a 1/4" guitar input, a 1/4" amp output (so you can use it with an external amp), and a 1/8" headphone output.  It even has a 1/8" CD/MP3 input so you can jam away with your favorite tunes.

The Line 6 Pocket POD comes with a holder that makes it possible to clip the unit onto a guitar strap or clothing.

The only downside I've found is the Line 6 Pocket POD positively devours AAA batteries.  To keep costs under control, I always have a fresh set of rechargeable batteries on hand.  You can purchase an optional DC adapter, but that just adds more wires to get tangled in.

The Line 6 Pocket POD Express is a versatile, pocket-sized mini-amp.  The amp models are based on respected amps: Fender Deluxe Reverb, Vox AC 30 Top Boost, Marshall JCM 800, Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier and Fender Twin Reverb.  Mix the amp models with the other guitar effects to find the sound that appeals to you.
The Line 6 Pocket PODt comes with several interface options: 1/8" Headphones, 1/4" Guitar In, 1/4" Out to Amp, and CD/MP3 In.  There's also a DC adapter input.  I passed on purchasing an adapter because it adds more wires to get tangled in.  The unit eats batteries, so you'll want to have plenty of rechargeable AAAs on hand.
