Here's a summer tradition I could do without: Running down to the ocean. Leaping in. And remember when I'm under that my sunglasses are (or were) on my head. I reach up, and they're gone.
In shallow, still water, it's usually not a problem. I dive down and get them. In surf or cloudy water, nine out of ten times, they're gone for good. I've lost half a dozen expensive sunglasses this way for one simple reason: I didn't have them attached to a Croakie Eyewear Retainer.
If I had attached a Croakie Eyewear Retainer, I'd still have the glasses. What kills me when I think about the thousand dollars or so I've left in Davy Jones' Locker is that for about $10, it never would have happened.
Croakies come in many colors and thicknesses. They also have rubber attachers (if that's a word) that you either attach to the end or stick the arms through.
Right now, my Croakie of choice is a thin leather style that I picked up at a marina in Panama City, Panama. Just before a ferry ride way out into the harbor, I had a flashback of all the sunglasses I lost and had to have a cord. The cord did its job that day and its still on duty. Yesterday, I wore the cord on a kayaking outing -- another great way to lose sunglasses. (A popular and true saying is: "If it ain't tied down, it ain't yours.")
Croakies are simple and effective.
