ABOUT
How often have you been so impressed by glowing reviews of a product that you purchased it only to receive gear that fell far short of your expectations?  This happened to me so many times I began to suspect that the reviewers only used the product the day they received it before writing their opinions.

All the knowledge and detailed tests in the world are no substitute for actual long-term use of a product.  That's why I created RuggedReviews.com. I want to give you a place where you can get reviews on products that have been tried a minimum of three months.  (In fact, I have used most of the products on this site for many months or even years before writing my review.)

When I need a piece of gear, I read multiple expert and consumer reviews and trust my gut before making a purchase.  Then I put the gear to the test through regular usage and write a review recounting my experiences.

Gear that fails miserably is returned or discarded.  I don't want to waste a lot of time writing reviews recounting where those products fell short.  I'd rather focus on the winners and write reviews that explain what sets them apart.

Often, however, even the best products have problems, and I include comments identifying the areas that need improvement.  I also include tips that will help you gain maximum benefit from the gear.

I will add new gear to RuggedReviews.com and update RuggedReviews.com The Blog every Thursday.  The Blog focuses on how the reviewed gear can be used in the real world.  For example, one week I'll tell you how all the running gear on these pages can work together to make exercising more enjoyable and productive.  Another week, I'll fill you in on essential gear for camping.  And the next, I'll show you how to make a truly wireless system for your guitar that will free you from a tangled mess of cords.

At its heart, RuggedReviews.com is about gear that will help you to break out, engage the world, and grow physically and mentally.  Living life in constant boredom is a tragedy.  With engaging hobbies and the right gear, you'll feel alive and eager to to begin each day.

This brief resume' doesn't tell half the story.  The real joy of my life is finding the right gear and traveling the world, from camping in the remotest national parks to finding genuine local party spots and festivals in cities and towns of all sizes.

When I'm home, I enjoy running, weight training for fitness, cooking American and Ethnic food -- Chinese, Italian and Mexican -- and playing my guitar to the annoyance of my captive audience.
Ultimately, I believe life is to short to wait around for something to happen.  If there's something you really want to do, do it while you're still breathing.  I hope RuggedReviews.com will give you a few ideas to engage your world.
